Dua Lipa’s New Album is Inspired by “UK Rave Culture”

The pop superstar will explore psychedelia and British club culture in her third album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s “Future Nostalgia.”
According to a recent Rolling Stone interview, Dua Lipa is incorporating the classic spirit of “UK rave culture” into her upcoming third album.
The pop sensation claimed that the sound of the album, her first since 2020’s Future Nostalgia, was influenced by the rock and techno of the 1990s, which she grew up listening to. With inspirations from Gorillaz to Primal Scream and Massive Attack, the Barbie hitmaker is beginning a new psychedelic phase of her voice.
Lipa remarked, “This record feels a bit more raw,” The essence of youth, freedom, having fun, and letting things happen—whether positively or negatively—is what I want to portray. It is unchangeable. You simply need to adapt to whatever is going on in your life.
By experimenting with British club culture and “psychedelic pop” sounds, Lipa is taking on the task of forging her own route while letting others inside her creative realm so they may work together. “Houdini,” which she released in November 2023, was produced by Danny L. Harle, a collaborator with Flume, and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala.
Warmly referring to them as her “band,” the chart-topping songstress has assembled a phalanx of heavy-hitting creatives, with whom she collaborated to make eight of the album’s 11 tracks. The powerhouse team reportedly includes prolific songwriters Tobias Jesso Jr. and Caroline Ailin, the latter of whom co-write Lipa’s global hits “New Rules” and “Don’t Start Now.”
“I remember thinking it was a genius move to get that combination of people together,” Parker told Rolling Stone. “Like, hats off to her.”
Lipa’s upcoming album does not have an official name or release date at the time of writing. She is currently preparing to perform with Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, which will take place Sunday, February 4th at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
